What automatic language navigation will I get with Translation Web?

Your visitors will be able to view your website in their own language based on their browser language setting. In other words a French visitor, when they first visit your website, will see it in French; a Spanish visitor will see it in Spanish and so on.

All the internal links on your website will be correctly resolved ensuring that your French visitor stays on your French website, your Spanish visitor stays on your Spanish website and so on.

Visitors can of course switch language at any time by simply choosing a different flag or language.

Is Translution Web search engine friendly?

Translution Web has been designed from the bottom up to be search engine friendly. This is because we create a mirror of your entire website on your own web servers, which is automatically indexed by overseas or language specific search engines.

We also provide language specific robot files and site maps ensuring that overseas or language specific search engines only index the relevant language content — giving you a strong local presence.

Can I add new languages later?

Yes. New languages can be added at any time. The process is as follows:

  • A mirror for the new language(s) is created of your static web files and content. The content is then translated into the new language(s)
  • Translution File Translator is re–configured
  • If you have a database, Translution Database Translator is re–configured with the language(s). Translution Database Translator then automatically requests the translations — either enhanced machine translation quality or professional translation or both for the new language(s).
  • Once the translations have been provided, your website can then be published in the new language.

How do I get a quotation?

Every website is different and we need to be sure that we advise you properly on what will be best for you. Please, therefore, register your interest without obligation and we will telephone you to discuss your requirements and provide you with a detailed quote and options.

What information do I need to provide to get a quote?

The following information is initially required:

  • The URL of the website
  • The languages you wish to translate into (please prioritize these)
  • Whether you want the whole website translated or just specific pages
  • Whether you use a CMS system

This is usually enough for us to provide a preliminary quotation which we then discuss with you. Dependent on what we find we may then propose some alternatives.

The quote is confirmed after we have been granted access to your source code and database.

What is included in the quotation?

This really depends on what we find when we first examine your website and requirements.

A typical quotation includes:

  • Translution Web implementation costs. This is usually based on the the number of pages/ languages that you have.
  • Website translation costs.
  • The costs of creating and translating a dictionary or glossary (if this has been recommended)
  • Costs of implementing Translution File Translator and Translution Database Translator
  • Costs of the annual license for Translution File Translator and Translution Database Translator — required to track changes to source language conrtent that requires translation.

What types of website translation services do you supply?

These types of translation can be mixed in any combination on your website. For instance you may choose to use TER translation for your main landing pages, professional translation for your product pages and machine translation for user forums.

We can advise you which type of translation is appropriate for different areas of your website.

You can also use your own team of in–house colleagues or volunteers to translate using Translution Localization Manager.

What are the complexities in website translation?

Website content uses many formats. As well as HTML pages, there is also often JavaScript, include files, downloads, multi-media and images — with many different formats all of which may require translation.

You need an expert with expert tools — and that is precisely what we provide. In–depth expertise built up over many years.

We therefore suggest you think very carefully before translating your web files. You really should use Translution for this.

Database content is different. It usually comes in two formats — HTML or as plain text. Translution Localization Manager takes out the code complications automatically, so if you do decide to use your in–house team to translate that's fine — simply license Translution Localization Manager.

Which languages do you provide?

We provide all major languages and language combinations for Translate, Edit and Proof Read Translation and Professional translation.

Post edited machine translation and machine translation, of course, depends on the availability of machine translation for specific languages pairs. To view the languages supported by machine translation click here.

How can I reduce the costs of human translation?

There are a number of ways that you can reduce human translation costs:

  • Reduce the initial languages that you translate your website into or phase these in over a period.
  • Only translate some of your website — not the complete website.
  • Substitute enhanced machine translation for some content.
  • Use your own staff to translate database content using Translution Localization Manager.
  • Use Translution for website translation services. We do not charge for repetitions and translation memory matches. This can reduce the amount you need to translate by up to 80%.

Can I translate using my own translators?

Yes. You will need a license for Translution Localization Manager .

Please bear in mind the amount of translation you wish to translate initially and your ability to deliver this. Following training, your own translators should be able to translate between 2000 — 5000 words per day. You will also need to appoint a project manager.

It may be better for Translution to provide the initial translations — we have access to a large team of translators who can turn around work very rapidly and who translate for a living. You could then use your in–house team for updates that you make. This may be a more practicable approach than trying to manage a large in–house team initially.

Can I use machine translation?

You decide how you will translate your website — you can use either human translation or machine translation — or a mixture of the two.

Machine translation is useful where you have a large amount of content, for example less popular product lines, blogs or for visitor provided content.

Often it is not cost effective to human translate this type of content.

However your main pages should always be human translated.

How good is the machine translation quality?

"Gist" machine translation is usually poor quality.

However "gist" machine translation can be improved by applying your organizations specific dictionary — we call this enhanced translation.

Enhanced machine translation is not perfect. However it is much better than "gist" machine translation.
